Damage Chapter 1-12: Lack of Passion....

We have man who honestly from looking from the outside might seem to have a perfect life... with a lack of passion. He states that he never really had passion about anything.

He meets his son girlfriend and feel a connection with her. For the first time in his life he feels passion because he has falling in love.

He states that him is still living is a tragedy. The reason he calls it this is because what he is feeling is two good against each other... Kinda like Romeo and Juliet (Following your heart versus obeying your family.)... In this case following his heart or not breaking his families heart...

Masturbation, and Rats, and Freud... Oh My!

A very long time ago I came to Lehman ready to be a psychology major, and that changed really fast, but while being one I got to read a lot about Freud. I just wasn’t crazy about the guy, respect him, but thought he was insane.... Anyway... Prior to reading this I knew of the “Rat Man.” “Rat Man” was Freud’s only case (that we know of) of a patient with OCD. “Rat Man” had a terrible fear of ...Rats! (hence the name).

This fear started when this officer told the “Rat Man” a story about what would happen as punishment to some criminals. The officer stated that prisoner were held down and a pot with rats was places on their butt. The rats would try to escape and would actually... eat their way through the prisoner’s anus...jesus...
This of course made him not only fear rats but fear that something terrible will happen to people he cared about (mainly his father and fiancee) ... like rats eating their anus...
As a anxious person myself, I understand “Rat Man” and feel really bad for him, his OSD got the best of him. This obviously not only had to deal with the rat story but according to Freud, he had this fear of being punished, which stemmed from him being punished for masturbating as a child.

This painting was painted by Freud's Grandson, pretty awesome, yea?
"Naked man with rat"- Lucian Freud 1978AD

Last little note, imagine this happen to "Rat Man"... just imagine... Haha

Poor Jeff... A reaction on reading Rewind, Replay and Repeat.

One of my favorite little sayings is "children don't come with instructions" and reading this reminded me of it. Jeff OCD most certainly comes from his over bearing father. Jeff pushes himself to be perfect because he doesn't want to disappoint his father- oh excuse me- I meant himself. his father obviously probably had problem himself, probably wanted things to be easy and when it wasn't he was going to blame himself right? The truth of the matter is we never know what and how the things we say and do will effect our children, Jeff may stress himself out a lot but at least he works hard to not mess up, maybe a bit much, but anything to be "perfect"right?...

no?... I'm just going to shut up now...

If only Napoleon had a Cellphone...

So what is "Vous" exactly? It's a french word meaning "You" but
a more formal "You." One that you would use on:
  • Someone of higher power
  • A elder
  • Anyone you wish to show respect to
Now obviously Napoleon is upset in his letter to his wife Josephine, reasons being that:
  1. she hasn't written to him in four days,
  2. He believes that because of this she has a lover, and
  3. she called him..... "Vous" (how dare she?!?!?)
The question we are trying to answer is "Is Napoleon obsessive with his wife?"I personally believe the man is, there is no reason why a couple needs to write to each other everyday during a war.
Today it's very different, we have internet, phones, phones with internet, just many different way of communicating. Back then, it was a whole other ball game (or battle field, if you will.) Now I do understand him being upset about her calling him "Vous" it can be confusing and upsetting, but to say you would kill yourself if you didn't stay together............

Come on... really?.. Obsessive much?
Not to mention it was a crock of bullshit since they later divorced,
and he got REMARRIED...
hope she didn't call him "Vous" in the bedroom, yikes...

In closing, I understand that Napoleon was a romantic, but at the end of the day, nothing is romantic about about killing yourself... unless you die together like Romeo and Juliet...
<3 How Romantic <3
...OH! last little note, they both cheated on each other...
